About Meal Hack

Meal Hack is a South African direct-to-consumer software company building a meal-planning app for households. It decides a week of meals around what a household actually eats, prices the resulting basket across Pick n Pay, Checkers and Woolworths, and turns it into a shopping list. The app is currently free to download and use on iOS and Android.

We exist to take the thinking out of feeding people, so that eating well stops being a luxury of time and money.

What we do

We decide the week

A household answers a few questions once. Meal Hack builds a seven-day plan around what they actually eat, how much time they have, and what they will not touch.

We price it before you shop

Every plan is costed against real shelf prices at Pick n Pay, Checkers and Woolworths, so the week's food budget is known before anyone gets to a till.

We hand over the list

The plan becomes a categorised shopping list covering only what is missing, so the food already in the house gets eaten instead of thrown away.

Who we build for

Households in South Africa who have to feed people every day on a real budget — working parents, shared houses, anyone tired of answering “what's for dinner?”. Meal Hack is free to use, with no card required.

Business model

Direct-to-consumer software, currently free

Meal Hack is currently free to download and use. The current mobile apps do not require a payment card or offer new in-app subscriptions.

Our planned revenue model is optional paid upgrades for additional automation and convenience, such as more plans and more done-for-you automation.

Core meal planning and access to real grocery prices and savings will stay free. We do not sell personal information or operate as a consultancy.

Who we are

Meal Hack was founded by Mark de Gouveia (CEO) and Regan van Heerden (CTO). Meet the team.
